MARYAN NAGY CAPTAN is an Egyptian-American poet and performer living in Philadelphia, where she serves as Art Director at Apiary Magazine and teaches experimental and experiential writing classes at The Head & The Hand Press. Her first collection, copy/body, was published by Empty Set Press in June 2017. Her poetry can be found in Mad House, AJAR, APIARY Magazine and the upcoming issue of Boneless/Skinless. Her work / musings can be found at thebodyinparts.tumblr.com.
GABRIEL OJEDA-SAGUE is a Miami -> Philly, Latino, gay Leo. His first collection, Oil and Candle (March 2016, Timeless, Infinite Light), is a set of writings on Santería, war, and the precarity of Latino-American lives. He is also the author of 4 chapbooks, most recently Where Everything is in Halves (Be About It, 2015), poems against death through The Legend of Zelda, and 'Yo' Quiere Decir Sunburn (2016), poems of anxious bilingualism. His second full-length book Jazzercise is a Language is forthcoming from The Operating System in 2018. His work can be found at ojedasague.com.

APIARY Magazine and Pentridge Station are teaming up for a night of literary nectar and boozy delights. We've been hard at work on APIARY 9: Sanctuary all Summer, and it's time to get some fresh air, experience fresh poems, and see some gorgeous friendly faces (YOURS). Come party with us in the midsummer sunset and help put some honey in our pot for Issue 9's print production!
On Sunday, September 3rd we're bringing an amazing lineup of some of our favorite poets to Pentridge Station, Cedar Park's newest neighborhood beer garden. Be sure to arrive early to sign up for our open mic!

This is a FREE event, but donations are encouraged and heavily appreciated! All donations and a percentage of the bar proceeds from this event will help fund the design/printing/distribution of APIARY 9: Sanctuary. Did we mention Pentridge is whipping up some wicked cocktail specials for us, too?!
This event is 21 and up, but folks under 21 may enter with a guardian. You don't have to imbibe to help us thrive: we'll also be running a merch table featuring FANCY NEW SWAG, like fine art prints by our APIARY 9 visual artists and early-bird tickets to our Fall launch party.

HOUSE AND HOME is a writing workshop hosted by Egyptian-Amerian poet and performer Maryan Nagy Captan.
This workshop will focus on exploring themes of memory, kinship, and familiar artchitectures: the places we've named house and home.
HOUSE AND HOME will utilize the five senses to dive into capturing the smells, sounds, and textures of our past. We will discuss the importance of safe spaces and finding sanctuary particularly in times in transition and migration.
This workshop is part of the YallaPunk fest and conference, a festival celebrating and showcasing Arab and MENA creatives.
This class is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. We encourage all participants to come to class with an open mind, a pen, and a notebook.

Empty Set Press is based in Philadelphia, publishing fine chapbooks of conceptual and experimental poetry. COPY/BODY is our second release, following Angelo Colavita's HEROINES in March.

PATRICK BLAGRAVE is a poet from Philadelphia. His work can be found in Apiary Magazine, Bedfellows, and Mad House.
BRITTANIE STERNER is the author of the chapbook we were calling you all night from the roof. She's published magazine articles and academic research in storytelling, and has taught poetry on Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.
ANGELO COLAVITA Founding editor of Empty Set Press, Angelo Colavita lives and writes in Philadelphia, where he hosts Oxford Coma, a nihilist poetry reading series. His work has appeared in Apiary Magazine, The Philadelphia Citizen, Mad House, Rolling Thunder Quarterly, Be About It, Outcast Poetry Journal and elsewhere online and in print. His first chapbook, HEROINes, was published in March of 2017.
KIRWYN SUTHERLAND is a Clinical Research Professional and poet concerned with black people in all aspects. He has made two National Poetry Slam Teams in 2015 (made the Semi-Finals) and 2016. His work has been published in Blueshift Journal, APIARY Magazine, Drunkinamidnightchoir, and Public Pool. Kirwyn is currently serving as Editor of Lists/Book Reviewer for WusGood magazine.
MARYAN NAGY CAPTAN is an Egyptian-American poet and performer living in Philadelphia, where she serves as Art Director at Apiary Magazine. Maryan is the founder of Brewerytown Social, a community arts organization showcasing talented local artists and teaches experimental and experiential writing classes at The Head & The Hand Press. Most recently, Maryan has served as Lead Teaching Artist for the Hoye Wayelo Summer Program in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, as well as Poet-in-Residence at both the Hanoi Zine Library in Hanoi, Vietnam and Paul Smith's College of the Adirondacks. Her first collection, Copy/Body (Empty Set Press) will be released on JUNE 17th!
